Jack & Copper...

are inseparable! They always have to be near each other when sleeping. And when they aren't sleeping, they are usually wrestling on the floor. The second picture is my favorite. And I love Copper's squishy face wedged between the couch and Jack in the third. These pictures aren't great because they were taken with my camera phone but I felt like posting them anyway :)

I saw this on a car in our apartment complex yesterday morning while walking Jack and Copper and couldn't resist getting a quick shot of it. And no, this is not my red car.

Nuts!

Last night, Howard and I went to the brand new Thai restaurant that opened in Paducah on Thursday. I have never eaten Thai food before. We were talking to a guy at the bar on Sunday and he mentioned that it had just opened. We went after work around 4:15 so we could get home early enough to let the dogs out but we were told it didn't reopen until 5 pm so we went across the street and had a drink while we waited. As we were pulling up into the parking lot right at 5, we saw the same guy we had been talking to at the bar on Sunday getting out of the car with his daughter. Apparently, we all still had Thai food on the brain. We were promptly seated and given the longest menu I had ever seen. The online version is 29 pages! Howard was adamant that we order the lettuce wraps to start and as he was paying, I wasn't about to argue. They were good but not great. I ordered the "Savory Sampler Platter" because it had food I actually recognized. The Crab Rangoon and Fried Dumplings were A-MAZING! The Spring Rolls, Fried Tofu and Mashed Potato Puffs I could have done without. Howard got the Duck in Red Curry Sauce. He made me try it and I still dislike curry. I think it smells awful and I wanted to tell Howard to go eat on the other side of the restaurant so I wouldn't have to smell it. Turns out we know the bartender there so we will probably go back pretty soon and just split an appetizer and get some drinks.

Saturday we played another round of golf. It was cloudy and had rained in the morning but Howard thought we could slip 9 holes in between the next thunderstorm. He was wrong. On hole 4, the sky opened up drenching us both. Since we are both such geniuses, we decided hiding under a tree in the golf cart was the best idea to wait the storm out. Luckily the downpour only lasted about 15 minutes and then it was blue skies. We were both dry and sweating by the 8th hole.

Sunday we went to the bar to watch ourselves become famous on TV. The Women's Billiards Tourney that we attended in Indiana was airing on ESPN for 3 hours. I saw myself once and Howard once. We sat in the wrong section I guess because there were lots of other people we recognized that got plenty of face time. Of course Howard tried to bet people at the bar on the outcome of the tournament but no one was dumb enough to fall for that.

On another note, last month I received a jar of cashews for being recognized in the newsletter at work I posted about here. Today, I received another jar of nuts, mixed nuts this time. I was very confused and thought at first that it must be a mistake. I then realized I never thanked anyone for the first jar and thought maybe they thought I never received them. So I promptly sent a thank you email out hoping that would solve the nut problem. One can only take so many nuts. I then called the other two girls who were recognized and found out they both got more nuts as well. One of them was told that we will be receiving one gift a month for a year and the gifts are supposed to get increasingly better. I wonder what kind of nuts I will get next month!

And another random item. While I was sitting in the chiropractor's waiting room last week, there was a girl about my age also in there using a phone book to try and find a rental car. Her first call was to Toyota. She was clearly puzzled when they informed her they don't rent cars out. She called someone and was ranting about how Toyota doesn't rent cars. Whoever was on the phone must have told her to try Ford because that was her next call. Again, she was upset when she hung up the phone with Ford after they also told her they don't rent cars out. I politely told her that she may want to try Enterprise or Budget. She looked at me like I was speaking gibberish. As I was walking back to go into the room with the chiropractor, I heard her call Nissan...

R.A.N.D.O.M

There is an employee here who has been sober for over 11 months. He is a nice guy though not all that intelligent. He lives in an apartment at the Housing Authority and they monitor his monthly income and adjust his rent accordingly so he's absent from work quite a bit to make sure his rent stays low. However, it's Thursday and I haven't seen him in a week. I thought he might be sick or injured but I learned the truth just yesterday afternoon. Another employee had a party at his house over the 4th of July weekend. Mr. Sober was invited though this other employee never thought he would actually show up given he didn't drink nor socialize with anyone who did drink anymore. But Mr. Sober did show up, and ended up outdrinking everyone else at the party. And apparently binging after 11 months of sobriety is not a good idea...really? He ended up urinating all over the host's couch and himself and throwing up blood all over the living room and bedroom. All I can hope is that the hangover that has lasted almost a week plus the embarrassment of everyone in town knowing what happened will teach him a valuable lesson.

Besides Mr. Sober being MIA on Monday, we also had 4 other guys absent from work. I don't know all their stories but one guy said his trailer flooded and he had to put a new roof on it before it rained again. Another guy said he spent all weekend in the hospital with his dad. His dad thought he was having a heart attack but the doctors realized he had just done too much crack. Yeah...

Last weekend, I saw the guy I knew who was playing frisbee golf that day in the park I wrote about in this post. We were talking and the subject of the guy he was playing with that stopped and asked if I had a boyfriend came up. He laughed and told me that "Clayton" has 3 kids with 3 different women. He is currently living with one "baby mama" but constantly goes back in forth between 2 of them while having an extra 3 or 4 girlfriends on the side. Howard couldn't help but laugh and tell me, "Well aren't you glad you dodged that bullet".

I don't know how many of you watch America's Got Talent. I don't. But I heard about this guy, Kevin Skinner from Mayfield, KY that was on it at the end of June. I work in Mayfield so I was curious and looked him up on YouTube. The minute I saw his face on the video, I recognized him. He was in here not too long ago looking for an application. He used to work less than a mile down the road as a "chicken catcher", his words not mine as you will see on the video. One of the applications I made fun of on this post had the work performed described as catching chickens. Wow, apparently the position really does exist. Oh, and this guy isn't bad either.

Just a quick thanks to P.J. for introducing me to the RSS feed! Or whatever it's called. It's like one-stop blog shopping :) XOXO

Weekend Recap

Thursday night, I met Howard at the bar for happy hour. I was sitting next to a guy that was probably our age, maybe a little younger. One of the servers was standing near the bar staring at him. Suddenly she asked the guy if she knew him from somewhere to which he replied probably but he didn't know where. She then says, "Oh! Aren't you the guy that always gets DUIs in the Hardees parking lot?" WOW! Way worse then getting called out as the Mega Touch girl. Apparently the first DUI was when he fell asleep in the drive thru when he was the next one to pull up. The second one was when he was waiting for breakfast to be served and he fell asleep in a parking spot. WINNER!

Friday we met Matt and Ivy at the bowling alley for a few games. Matt is really good and I've tied his score once but I'd never beaten him before. I won the first game 147 to 144! I lost the second game 161 to 162. One freakin point. And I choked on the tiebreaker 108 to 135. Good news is I crossed an item off my list :)

Saturday, we were planning on waiting around all day to go out and see some fireworks at night. But we got bored. So we went to play golf instead. Howard got his first par. He was actually putting for birdie but missed and settled for the par. He was extremely excited. It was a good thing we went ahead and went out early in the day because around 6 pm, it started raining and didn't stop. Most of the fireworks shows were postponed or cancelled. Yay. Happy 4th.

Sunday we watched the Roddick/Federer tennis match. It was incredible. Unfortunately, Roddick lost so I owe Howard dinner on Wednesday night. We are going to Olive Garden though so I feel like a winner anyway. We went to lunch at Texas Roadhouse and then lounged around the house the rest of the day.

This morning on my way to work on the parkway, I was going about 80 in the left hand lane. The speed limit is 70 so I was already speeding a little bit. I was going around a car in the right hand lane that was going to slow for me when all of a sudden a black car came up behind me out of nowhere. They must have been no more than 1 foot from my bumper tailgating me. I moved out of the way as soon as I could and watched the black car fly by me. Right at the moment, a glorious cop going the other way slowed down on the other side of the highway, made a U-turn in the median and flew after the black car. I don't know why that made me so happy but it did. But my elation was cut short when a brown lab ran out in front of my car five seconds later. Luckily I saw it in time and slammed on my brakes to narrowly avoid it. I have no idea what I would have done had I actually hit the poor thing.

Bad Day & Night...

The results are in...I have TWO bulging discs as my best friend Ashley correctly predicted. That girl is one smart cookie. Too bad she's not living in KY so she can work on me for free :( Basically according to Ashley, because I have not yet really talked to my chiropractor about it, I just need to do some exercises to strengthen my lower back and abdominal muscles. And my BFF loves me so much, she's going to write out the exercises and fax them to me next week. I love having a med student as my bestie. She comes in handy quite often!

I haven't really talked to my chiropractor about his plan yet because I was in a rush yesterday due to the fact I had Copper with me. It was 96 degrees out when I got to the chiropractor and I didn't want to leave Copper in the car with no A/C so I left my car running. Once I entered the office and looked out the windows at my car, I could see him hopping and jumping all over the place. I then realized it was quite possible he might lock me out so I went back outside and opened one window enough that I could get my arm inside to unlock the car if necessary. Once I was back inside the office, I thought that he might squeeze himself out the window and run out onto the main road. So I basically rushed through my appointment and told the doc I would talk to him at my next appointment which is today. When I got out to my car there was a family surrounding my car petting Copper through the window as he whined like crazy. Everything was alright in my car except when I went to check the time, the clock said 16:16. Somehow he managed to change my clock to military time. He's very clever.

Next stop was the park for Howard's soccer game. I got there early and decided to give Copper some exercise so that he might just sit next to me during the game and watch. As we were walking, I noticed a group of 4 guys playing frisbee golf. I knew one of them so I said hi. Another one of them continued to turn around and stare at me as he walked to the next hole. They finished playing and two of them got in a car, went the wrong way on the one way street and pulled up next to me. The one who was staring waved at me and I waved back. He then proceeded to ask me if I had a boyfriend to which I obviously replied yes and that I was waiting for him. He said he had to at least try and waved goodbye. I can't help that it made me feel good :) Copper didn't want to sit still on the soccer field so we had to stay in the car which didn't help my back at all.

It had rained a few drops during the game but nothing prepared me for driving home. The sky opened up and I couldn't see 2 feet in front of my face. I slowed from 80 mph down to 25 mph on the major highway. Some people didn't have lights on and it made seeing their cars impossible. My back was already hurting and adding a tense, stressful driving experience on top of that wasn't in the least bit helping. The wind was whipping my car around and it was miserable.

After we had dinner, I decided to go to bed relatively early at 9:30. Usually reading will put me right out if I'm tired so I read for a while then turned the light out at about 10:30. I tossed and turned until 12:15 when I decided I should get up and try sleeping elsewhere so I wouldn't wake Howard. I laid out two sleeping bags on the floor of the living room and another blanket over them and went back to reading for a little while. No luck. At about 2:30 I gave the couch a try. My back pain just seemed to be getting worse so at 3:30 I went back to the bedroom. Finally at about 5:30 I fell asleep. My alarm went off at 5:45. I slept again until about 6:40 when it went off again. So I'm working on about an hour of sleep right now. Blah.
